(Re)Imagining Harlequin Romance
Re Imaging Harlequin Romance started with the pages of Harlequin Romance novels which became the source of a raucous interdisciplinary and poetic collaboration between Ricketts, dance/theatre/voice artist and Lyn Vasey, poet and musician. This collaborative project resulted in 26 renderings of performable poems inspired by pulp fiction romances. With this residency, we wanted to explore the full range of variables, mechanisms and structures of chance. Our intention was to find the balance between reliable compositional and performative scaffolding and preserving the space for spontaneity and surprise. Audience agency plays a critical part in this, and so, we will be considering this sharing as a collective act of testing the ground for the intentions we have explored this week. With your input we hope to create a racy set of improvisations infused with romance and secrecy!

House of Love is a poetic barn-dance musical about lineage and legacy of familial creativity, and how we learn to care and be cared for through/by life, landscape and language.
Ahava Shira loves to move, sing, speak poems and tell stories. She is excited to be in the midst of this new creative process and grateful to Gwenyth and William for their mentorship, and Gregory for his ever-loving support!
