What is DTA?

Devised Theatre Accelerator (DTA) will help ignite your innovative ideas, aid in your training practices, help you hone and build your unique creative work.

Together we will:

explore healthy collective creation practices
engage in movement for the devised theatre artist
investigate different forms of Devised Theatre such as but not limited to:
- Physical Theatre
- Immersive Theatre
- Site Specific Theatre
dedicate time to develop and share your sparks of ideas for mentorship, feedback, guidance.
potentially share some of your new work to an invited audience on the final day.

The days will be full, stimulating and inspiring.

Who are you?

You are a bright spark of an artist with passion, drive, vision.

You are either a solo artist or a collective of creatives.

Maybe you are an actor, a dancer, a film maker, an installation artist, a musician, a writer, a choreographer...

You have ideas brewing, percolating, bursting inside you. You may have got up on your feet with some of these ideas. But maybe not.

You need time, space, an experienced outside eye to help move your ideas forward.

You dream of a dynamic, beautiful, supportive environment in order to create your next great work.

Who am I?

I am a grounded, thoughtful, reflective artist with decades of experience in the world of creation.

I am a theatre artist, movement specialist and the co-founder and Artistic Director of Out of the Box Productions, a company that creates original works integrating spoken text, dance, music and interactive technology.

For 16 years, I was a full time faculty member of the Theatre Department at York University, teaching movement for the actor and Devised Theatre.

In 2021, we opened the Artist Residency at Woodland Farm.

I would be honoured to offer my training, experience and passion to support the creation of your next masterpiece.

Location

DTA is held at the beautiful Woodland Farm Artist Residency, on Salt Spring Island.

The Woodland Farm Creation Barn is a dedicated research and creation space for the performing artist. It is approx. 790 ft2 (73 m2) in a newly-built, comfortably-heated space with soaring 19ft (6m) gabled ceilings and a sprung floor.

Surrounding the Creation Barn is a stunning forest, with old growth trees, walking paths and gardens.

10% discount for Individuals in a
Collective

Application Process

Participants can apply as Solo Performers or as a Collective.

DTA is limited to 5 participants to ensure quality time and ample space.

If you are a member of a Collective, each person is required to apply separately.
